Eno Local Heritage Museum welcomes visitors in the heart of the beautiful village centre of Eno, nestled by the Pielisjoki River. The museum is housed in a granary built in 1853. The museum features, among other things, a ski exhibition, rural artefacts from the parish of Eno, and a display section on the Kaltimo cardboard factory. The museum yard also includes a cottage, a smoke sauna, a row of storehouses, an outdoor storage building, a milk platform, and a windmill.
Guided tours of the museum are available in Finnish and English. The Eno Society also offers guided tours in the village centre of Eno and in the wider Eno parish area, tailored to customers’ needs and various themes.
Open 29 June–24 July 2026, Mon–Fri 12–18 and by appointment.

Kesälahti Local Heritage Museum & Kyllikinpiha Home Museum

The Local Heritage Museum area is a rural courtyard dominated by a traditional Finnish smoke cottage (Savutupa), built in 1725 and the largest of its kind in Finland. The buildings and collections illustrate everyday life in Kesälahti from earlier times. A museum café operates in Myllytupa. The Kyllikinpiha Home Museum presents the life and work of Kyllikki Paajanen (1923–1990), a teacher, journalist and Local Heritage Counsellor. It includes her homes: Yökkömökki, furnished as a 1940s home, and Kummuntupa with her archives, photographs and personal items.

The Kontiolahti Local Heritage Museum is located in a granary built in 1871 on Keskuskatu. With nearly 800 objects, as well as photographs, sounds and stories, the museum offers a fascinating insight into life in Kontiolahti at the turn of the 20th century. New this season, the museum also features an adventure game for schoolchildren, providing an engaging way to discover local history.

Nurmes

At Kötsi Museum, you can explore the history of the Nurmes region through a variety of exhibitions, as well as archival amateur films and short documentary films that shed light on local life.
The museum’s permanent exhibition covers Karelian evacuees, the Palm Roma family, the development of transport and commerce in Nurmes, and the cultural life of the area. The exhibition Strong Women of the Market Town, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Nurmes market town, is on display from 25 May to 25 September.

Ikola museum

At Ikola Open-Air Museum, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of buildings dating from the 18th to the 20th century. The smokehouse cottage and the Rantola house illustrate everyday life in the rural areas of Eastern Finland.
In the cowshed of the Ikola farm, exhibitions present the history of the Kuokkastenkoski ironworks, the development of fire services, and the activities of the Nurmes cooperative dairy. On display are animal-themed concrete sculptures by the artist Alma Pääkkönen.
The Vinkkeli storehouse houses Uddin kauppa (family Udd’s shop). The pygmy goats Opri and Jemi live at the end of the cowshed. The main cottage also features a summer café, a museum shop, and an exhibition on the history of the Ikola farm.

Paihola Hospital Museum

Paihola Hospital Museum presents the history of the Paihola psychiatric hospital and psychiatric care from 1951 to 2016. The museum features artefacts, photographs, portraits, newspaper clippings, and a video presentation in which former hospital employees talk about their work (duration 30 minutes). The museum is maintained by the Paihola village association through volunteer work. Some of the museum guides are former hospital employees. A photographic exhibition of the village is also on display in connection with the museum.
Open on summer Saturdays from 12:00 to 15:00.

Groups by appointment at other times as well.
